Is there a Huawei p30 Lite?

You may think that huawei P30 Pro overshadowed Huawei’s release of the low-cost P30 Lite, but that doesn’t mean the Lite version isn’t worth your time. After Google, Samsung and Motorola have released exceedingly good mid-tier phones, so it’s worth taking a look at Huawei’s entry into the that market. Like other mid-tier devices. I’ve spent a lot of time using the handset as my primary phone and it’s really changed my opinion about a mid-tier phone can do.

What is p30 Lite?

Naturally there's a much-reduced set of features compared to the Pro and standard models, but this is still a very serviceable smartphone.

What are the features of Huawei p30 Lite?

Design

Picking up the P30 Lite and feeling its glass back makes it feel more like a premium device than its $499 price tag would lead you to believe. The phone feels nice in my hands, the P30 Lite comes in two colours. Although it looks and feels good, it’s in the finer details it reveals its mid-tier status. The Interior design of the phone isn’t going to blow you away, but it’s like popping the hood on a Honda, It’s reliable and gets the job done.


Is the Huawei p30 Lite waterproof?

Unlike the P30 Pro and P30, which both have IP ratings (IP68 and IP53 respectively), the P30 Lite has no formal dust/water resistance certification. The speaker location on the bottom edge is impractical when you're viewing view landscape-format content gaming or video watching. The SIM slot sits on the top edge, and this phone supports two SIMs or a single SIM and a MicroSD card (not Nano Memory Card).

As all mid-tier phones, the P30 Lite has a 3.5mm headset port on the bottom edge of the phone, as plenty of people still use a traditional headset with a 3.5mm jack.

Display

The phone comes with a 6.15-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080x2312 pixels at a pixel density of 415 pixels per inch (ppi). It has a tiny notch with a single 32-megapixel camera at the top of the screen, but you can “turn it off” using software if you want. The downside is the lack of some type of always-on display functionality, which is one of my favourite Android features.

It doesn’t have an in-display fingerprint scanner like some phones from 2019, instead the P30 Lite’s fingerprint scanner is located on the phone’s back, but it’s easy to reach so it isn’t a problem. The P30 Lite has LCD screen and it doesn’t get as dark as an OLED screen, but to be fair it looked sharp and colourful, and if you don’t hold the two screen side-by-side you’ll never notice.

Battery

There’s a 3,340 mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging, but no support for wireless charging. The P30 Lite's 3,340 mAh battery kept it going for 6 hours and 23 minutes under Geekbench battery benchmark in Performance Mode, while it could only manage 5 hours 43 minutes with Performance Mode switched off. Either way, battery life is unimpressive. This is one of the few handsets I've reviewed recently that's struggled to get me through a working day without needing a power boost.

Performance

Whereas the P30 Pro and P30 are powered by the top-of-the-range Kirin 980 chipset, the P30 Lite uses the rather less powerful Kirin 710 chipset and 4GB RAM, It isn’t going to blow anyone away, but it gets the job done. And it faster than my older iPhone 7 Plus, anyway isn’t a perfect comparison.

Camera

How many camera lenses does a Huawei p30 Pro have?

In the last two years, Huawei has been making a name for itself with its fantastic camera, and the P30 Lite tries its best to live up to that reputation. Huawei P30 lite comes with three cameras, The P30 Lite’s primary shooter is a 24-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture, the second lens is an ultrawide 8-megapixel lens, and The final lens is a two-megapixel f/2.4 depth sensor. The P30 Lite's cameras may not be up to the groundbreaking level of the P30 Pro's quad camera system, but three rear cameras on a handset in this price range is a real novelty. That three lenses produce a variety of shots, and most of the pictures have great potential.

Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks of this camera, it is unable to process busy details and sometimes the photos look a little overexposed or washed out, so huawei armed the P30 Lite’s camera with AI scene recognition software to help combat these shortcomings. This means the camera knows what it’s taking pictures of and adjusts the settings accordingly.

Night Mode on the P30 Pro, The Pixel 3 and the P30 Lite 

Also there’s a night mode that I found was very hit and miss. It wasn’t as good as the P30 Pro or the Pixel 3, but it did help in some situations. In general, the camera takes pretty sharp pictures until you try to take a picture with a lot of details like a tree with leaves or someone’s hair in a selfie. Once that happens, the camera shows its weaknesses, but for a day-to-day shooter, it’s all right.

Software

The Huawei P30 Lite runs on Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.0.1 providing the tweaks that Huawei favours. There's nothing offensive here, although Huawei does like to include its Gallery and Music apps, its own App Gallery and its own Health app. If you don't like these apps, just drop them all into a folder and forget about them.

In all honesty Huawei P30 lite is a great phone with an attractive price and if you don't care about perfect camera, you can buy it. Sure maybe it’s missing Huawei's zoom lens or wireless charging, but am I really willing to pay over $500 more dollars for features like that?
